Our History

...since 1981

The Nursery school which was situated at Ibikunle Street, Yaba, began with 15 pupils. There were only two teachers; Mrs. Smith and a Sri-Lankan lady called Mrs. Honouring Gnanapragasam. Although the school started with only 15 children on the first day, the number kept increasing daily so much so that by the end of the term, the number on roll had grown to 50.

Mrs. Smith, an alumnae of Froebel Institute of Education, University of London, and her handful of dedicated staff, worked very hard giving of their best and prayed well so that by January 1987, the Primary School had begun. It is conveniently situated at Raymond Street.

Since its foundation, Childville grew steadily with improved facilities to enhance teaching and learning and by the end of the second term, there were about 125 children in the school. The school was approved after the 1st official inspection by the Lagos State Ministry of Education in October 1987 and the first Head Teacher was Mrs. O.M. Smith. In January 1988, Mrs. Funsho Adeleke and Mrs. B. O. Doherty were appointed Head Teacher and Assistant Head Teacher respectively.

The first Childville school song was composed by Mr. Edwin Onwosi and the first school piano was bought in the same year. The first of the series of school excursions took place on the 28th – 30th of May, 1988 excursion to places of interest has since become a tradition of the school.

The First School Leaving Certificate and National Common Entrance Examination were held in 1991 in which the school recorded 100% success. The first Inter House Sports was held in 1991 to celebrate ten years Founders Day Anniversary of the School. The venue was the University of Lagos Sports Centre.

The Foundation pupils were drawn from the mother branch at Yaba. Thirty four pupils were registered on that day. The population increased to 91 at the end of the week.
